Privacy
This site is a static set of pages with no user accounts and no forms that collect personal data. We do use Google Analytics 4 to understand site usage. Here's exactly what is and isn't collected.
Server access logs
Like virtually all web hosting, our hosting provider keeps standard server access logs for the pages you visit — IP address, browser/device information (user agent), referring page, and timestamp — as a normal part of operating a web server (security, troubleshooting, and any built-in traffic reporting the host provides). This is server-side log analysis, not a cookie placed in your browser, and we do not separately collect or store this information ourselves beyond what the hosting provider retains.
Cookies
Aside from the Google Analytics 4 cookies described below, this
site's own pages and scripts do not set any cookies, and don't
use browser local storage to track you. The one embedded
third-party element on the site is the YouTube player on the
Demonstrations page: videos are
loaded only when you click to play them (not automatically), and
the embed uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain
(youtube-nocookie.com), which avoids setting
YouTube/Google's standard tracking cookies for ordinary playback.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a service provided by Google, to understand how this site is used — which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive here, and general usage patterns. Specifically, we use it (1) to check whether the site's structure is easy for visitors to navigate and to find areas that need improvement, and (2) to see which topics and pages draw the most interest, as a reference for deciding what content to prioritize explaining or publishing next. GA4 sets cookies in your browser to do this. For exactly what data GA4 collects and how, see Google Analytics 4's own documentation and Google's privacy policy — rather than us restating details here that change as GA4 itself changes. We use the data only in aggregate, to understand how the site is used — not to identify individual visitors.
Where consent is required, GA4 only runs after you've given it. You can also opt out at any time using Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser's own settings.
